Things are coming together. Included in this post are some pictures from the recent Rondy festival here in Anchorage. One of the events is the reindeer run, kind of like run with the bulls in spain... but run from the reindeer. Been in Alaska 6 years and never been to the Rondy. A true Alaskan event they left an in-heat female reindeer corralled on one end than let the male bulls race different groups of people down a section of the snow-covered 4th avenue. Also the famous sprint sled dog race, ice sculptures, native dancers.
There is something to the famous NIKE sports maxim: JUST DO IT. That is what I have been doing with this project, putting my head down and trying to make things happen. Fortunately I have approached this vision from the start with an open mind and lots of energy and desire. Nothing has worked out as planned, and there have been numerous set-backs... but at the same time we are making great progress.
We are now additionally combining forces with great people @ The Anchorage Media Group. I can't say enough about what a difference it makes each time I meet a person or organization interested in collaborating on this, how their ideas and connections give our work an adrenaline boost and refine/ improve some aspect of our vision.
Anchorage Media Group has upstairs @ the Egan Center reserved for April 11th. I literally had the muni permit application for April 25th in my hand and was about to fax it when I heard on the radio about the Alaska Green Fair, slammed on the brakes and called the number demanding to talk to DeAnna @ Anchorage Media Group. I think it was Feb 16th the very first day they advertised. Eventually I got through and we met up, and we are now synthesizing/ integrating our two visions and the compound result should be spectacular, and super-effective at engaging mainstream Alaskans from a variety of demographics to focus on how a practical approach to the green movement will save them $$ and make the world a better, more sustainable place. And also hopefully effective @ bringing a Green Job Corp "pathway out of poverty" workforce development program to Anchorage.
I will be posting more very soon, including the list of seven films. But basically our schedule now looks like :
April 11th Egan Center
Alaska Green Fair
10am-4pm
break
6-730pm
Green Jobs Forum
Post-forum, Evening
Concert/ fundraiser.
On sunday the 12th we will be screening two of the films donated to the Yukon River Media Project at a venue TBA. And during the 11th we will be organizing ourselves into a network of Alaska Green Consumers, which should strategically position us to deliver on a carrotmob campaign for the evening of Earth Day, Wednesday April 22nd.
The ski trip is off because I have so many commitments here in Anchorage, and have a lot to accomplish between now and the 11th. As soon as the river breaks-up in the spring my canoe will be pointed toward St. Marys ... which should give me a good honest tune-up for the Yukon 1000 race and an opportunity to hand-deliver films to schools across Alaska.
Again === 1st Annual annual Alaska Green Fair during the day on April 11th from 10AM to 4PM, a break to take down the booths... and than a live, dynamic Green Jobs Forum from 6pm for an hour or so. We will be showing some of the films at one end of the Egan Center @ the fair during the day, and raffling off some items. Just sent some letters to Mayor Claman and Governor Palin today, hopefully they will be able to be @ our forum. After the forum there will be a Last Frontier Eco Alliance event fundraiser, either @ the Egan or a near-by bar. We have some local hiphop/RnB artist who will be performing live, and if anyone else is interested in showcasing their spoken word poetry/ rap skills we might open up the mic.
